Election date is here!
After a long six week general election campaign, voting day is finally here! No matter what your point of view it is absolutely essential for democracy that we encourage all our friends, family, colleagues, neighbours and service users to exercise their right to vote. And of course don’t forget that photo identification is needed today for the first time – see here for a list of accepted forms of identification.
The TSI was able to support two in person hustings events in Oban and Helensburgh last week which were attended by 50 and 70 people respectively. These events provided opportunities for community engagement with the candidates as well as opportunities for third and social enterprise sector organisations to ask questions about issues of concern to them. We recorded the Oban event, attended by three of the six candidates, on YouTube and this can be accessed here. Details of all six candidates can be found here.
I was pleased to chair the Oban hustings event and thanks to Robert Ryan who expertly chaired the event in Helensburgh. Thanks also due to Kirsten Johnston who organised both hustings, James Gray who managed the sound at both events, the events team at Corran Halls, Oban Pride for the loan of their PA system and to TSI team members Janis Marshall Reilly and Phil Ashby who helped at each venue and Lauren Martin who managed the communications and social media.
We know there was community appetite for a hustings event in Dunoon but candidate diaries were tight, as was time, so for the Holyrood elections in 2026 we will start with a hustings event in Dunoon!
